Overview

Developed following implementation of a national programme for newly qualified doctors, aimed at improving confidence and competence in practical skills essential to managing acute medical and surgical emergencies through peer learning.

Course objectives

To enhance final year medical students skills and confidence in recognising and managing acutely unwell patients through practical hands-on learning and medium fidelity simulation.

  1. Peer learning
  2. Medium fidelity simulation based scenarios requiring ‘real life complex decision- making skills’
  3. Practical skills stations with a high faculty to learner ratios
  4. Real-time learner feedback and peer to peer evaluation using electronic learning tools for greater individual growth.
  5. Hot topics- integrating current national and international guidelines with real-life patient scenarios
This peer-delivered programme is co-designed with expert faculty from frontline clinical practice- enabling greater translation to practice and ensuring the sessions are highly relevant. The course structure is developed from our peer-reviewed internationally published methods.
