About

Rabies is almost preventable, provided that post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) is implemented immediately after an exposure. PEP, for people bitten by rabid mammals, consists of a combination of appropriate wound cleansing, active immunization with a tissue culture rabies vaccine and passive immunization with rabies immunoglobulin where necessary, and is highly effective in preventing infection and death.

 This registry attempts to improve the prevention of human rabies and control of animal rabies in Sri Lanka by establishing a national rabies post exposure treatment (PET) surveillance registry that is constantly updated, sustainable and integrated

Objectives

  1. To develop a database for PET surveillance
  2. To describe indicators for monitoring PET application using the data collected during first three months of initiation of the system.
  3.  To describe the profile of animals responsible for the bite during the first three months of the initiation of the database
